Baboon Heaven

Baboon Heaven is an article by Michael C. Blumenthal about his volunteer experiences at Rita Miljo's South African baboon sanctuary called C.A.R.E. (Centre for Animal Rehabilitation and Education). It's in the December issue of Natural History and is not on-line yet, unfortunately, nor available, seemingly, anywhere else right now. As soon as it's available, I'll post it.

Meanwhile, here are previous posts about Rita Miljo and C.A.R.E: April 28, 2006 (a link to a S.A. TV program called 50/50); Scott's meeting with Rita Miljo; and April 11, 2005.

We like to think the Peaceable Primate Sanctuary is the U.S. version of Baboon Heaven.

Meanwhile, work at the sanctuary has been progressing. Here's a note from Scott earlier this month:

"Hello Natasha,
Hope you are well. I have been working hard the last few weeks . I have completed the installation of the office part of the road and about half of the outdoor enclosure. We now have a bathroom and a nice little area for the volunteers.
Scott"

The above video of baboons at C.A.R.E came from Samantha De Whirts. You can view her other C.A.R.E videos here: samanthadewhirts.
